The Project at a Glance

Climate-conscious consumers wanted to reduce their food carbon footprint but found it overwhelming to calculate and track. GreenPlate was designed to make sustainable eating effortless — suggesting recipes based on seasonal, local ingredients and showing the environmental impact of every meal choice.

What We Faced

Accurate carbon footprint calculation for food is complex — it depends on ingredient origin, seasonality, transportation, and preparation methods. We needed a machine learning model that could estimate footprints from limited user input, plus integrations with grocery delivery APIs across 15 different providers.

Our Solution

How We Solved It

A TensorFlow model trained on food lifecycle assessment data estimates carbon impact from recipe ingredients. React Native delivers a smooth cross-platform experience, while GraphQL APIs aggregate data from 15+ grocery delivery partners. Stripe handles in-app purchases for premium meal plans and grocery orders.
